Eating out Naples
is known as the birthplace of the pizza, so this is, naturally, the staple of the region. Baccala alla vicentina (cod in milky
sauce) fegato alla veneziana (a liver and onion dish) are among the food specialities on the Venetian Riviera, whereas Lake
Garda is well known for its oil which has been produced in the area since Roman times. The typical average cost of a three
course meal is £15, a bottle of wine £5, a bottle of beer £3 and soft drinks £2.
Getting
around There are frequent bus and train services between Naples and Sorrento, Boats and hydrofoils link the
town with resorts along the coast, as well as with the island of Capri and Ischia. Venice has an excellent public transport
system on a variety of waterbuses, water taxis and ferries run a frequent service to the lagoon islands.
